CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH: FOOTSTEPS TO FREEDOM BALTIMORE, DC INCLUDING THE TUBMAN TRAIL
The journey to freedom. Join us on a journey through a tumultuous period of our Nations history and experience the legacies left by the men and women whose honor, courage, and strength has made us the country we are today! Walk in the footsteps of Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King, Jr., Harriet Tubman, Mary McLeod Bethune, and countless other noble Americans. Includes Washington DC, Cambridge MD, and Baltimore MD. Celebrate African American history and culture. This tour features the Reginald F. Lewis Museum, African American Civil War Museum, National Museum of African American History and Culture, Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial, The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, The Lincoln Memorial, The Korean War Veterans Memorial, Cedar Hill, Underground Railroad sites and tours, a African American Heritage Tour of the Shaw Neighborhood and a African American Tour of Baltimore. Includes two breakfasts, one lunch and two dinners.
Arrive at Cambridge and meet our Tubman Trail GUIDE at Sailwinds Visitor's Center. Embark on the journey of the "Underground Railroad," past Stanley Institute, Church Creek, and Madison. Depart on the Tubman Trail. Enjoy lunch included at Old Salty's Restaurant offering the freshest fish, homemade rolls, and delicious desserts. Continue to the Tubman Visitor's Center. Visit the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center - immerse yourself in Tubman's world through informative, evocative and motive exhibits. The immersive displays show how the landscape of the Choptank River region shaped her early years and the importance of her faith, family and community. This evening enjoy dinner at Brio Tuscan Grille. Brio brings the pleasures of the Tuscan country villa to you. The Italians built their spacious country villas to escape the pressures of urban life and enjoy "La Dolce Vita" (the good life). You would mingle with family and friends and eat freshly prepared food from their grounds while surrounded by natural beauty. In just this manner, Brio offers its guests "La Dolce Vita." Dinner begins with Brio Chopped Salad. Entrée choices are: (1) Lasagna Bolognese; (2) Chicken Under The Brick, mushroom marsala sauce, served with garlic mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables; (3) Tuscan Grilled Pork Chops. Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. then depart with your guide and stop at The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial, stop at the Vietnam Memorial,Lincoln Memorial and the Korean War Veterans Memorial. Drive by Freedom Plaza and Willard Hotel, visit the African American Civil War Museum and see the Civil War Memorial, enjoy an African American Heritage tour of the Shaw Neighborhood, drive by the Thurgood Marshall Center, Howard University, ben's Chili Bowl, Lincoln Center, Bohemian Caverns, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library and Metropolitan Ame Church. Visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture Center then end your day with dinner at Buca Di Beppo for a family style meal before returning to your hotel for the evening.
Meet your guide for an African American Tour of Baltimore. The tour includes the Baltimore Civil War Museum where Henry "Box" Brown will describe his famous journey to freedom. Next we'll stop at Douglass Place and learn about Frederick Douglass's life here as a slave. Continue with a visit to the Orchard Street Church, Baltimore's home of the Underground Railroad, where we will meet Harriet Tubman. A Runaway Sack lunch is included . This afternoon visit the Reginald F. Lewis Museum Lawyer, entrepreneur, philanthropist, Chairman, CEO, husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, friend-Reginald F. Lewis lived his life according to the words he often quoted to audiences around the country: "Keep going, no matter what." The museum's mission is to be the premier experience and best resource for information and inspiration about the lives of African American Marylanders. We will then depart for home.
