Day 1

Depart the USA on a flight to Lima, Peru. Your flight arrives late evening and the Mayflower Cruises & Tours representative will meet you at the airport and assist with the transfer to your hotel.

Day 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, board a morning flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, a motorcoach will be waiting to take you to the Sacred Valley of the Urubamba for the start of your Peruvian adventure. Visit the Pisac Market and enjoy the colorful ambiance as the artisans proudly display their handicrafts. Stroll through the marketplace and pick up some handmade souvenirs! Lunch is included at a local countryside restaurant before arriving at the hotel. Meals: B, D

Day 3

Begin the day with an excursion to the Andean village of Ollantaytambo, continuously inhabited since the 13th century, which once served as a country retreat for Inca royalty. As you walk through the village of cozy cobblestone streets and adobe buildings, your guide will provide the history of the Incan city planning using a grid formation and irrigation channels which are still visible in the surviving ruins. The ruins of the massive Inca fortress and large stone terraces built into the hillside are still visible today making it feel as if time has stood still. Following lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Maras Saltpans. Generation after generation, learn how families harvest the salt during this impressive process and maintain their own pans amidst the never-ending terraces. On the visit to Chinchero, an authentic Andean village, see the collection of paintings inside the historic church which is built upon an Inca temple. You’ll also have an opportunity to see local artisans create some of their handicrafts at a weaving demonstration. After a full day of touring, return to the hotel for an evening at leisure. Day 4

This morning, board the Vistadome train and depart the Sacred Valley for Aguas Calientes, home of Machu Picchu. Enjoy the changing landscape as you travel from Andean highlands to the beginning of the jungle before arriving in the town of Aguas Calientes. For centuries, Machu Picchu has remained a mystery, holding tight its secrets. Journey to the Lost City of the Incas and uncover the mystery of this ancient citadel as Machu Picchu wraps its magical spell around you. Perched high on an isolated mountaintop, this citadel in the clouds is a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring an intricate complex of stone stairs, ruins and tunnels. Your guide will walk with you through this amazing archaeological site and provide history and lore that is sure to leave you in awe. During the excursion, lunch will be provided at a local restaurant. After exploring Machu Picchu, return to town for an included dinner and overnight at the hotel. Meals: B, L, D

Day 5

Enjoy a morning at leisure before departing by Vistadome train for the return to Ollantaytambo where the coach will be waiting to take you to Cusco, the Imperial City and archaeological capital of South America. Once the capital of the Inca Empire, Cusco sets the stage, taking you back in time to when the glorious Incas ruled. Dinner is included tonight at a local restaurant. Meals: B, D

Day 6

The day begins with a guided tour as you follow the trail of the Incas. Admire the finest examples of Inca history and architecture and take in the panorama of dramatic mountains and spectacular canyons. Cobbled streets and plazas feature both colonial and religious landmarks. Visit the Plaza de Armas and the Santo Domingo Church built on the foundations of the Inca temple Koricancha and dedicated to the Sun God. The entire valley is filled with architectural wonders around every vista! Continue to Sacsayhuaman, a gigantic walled city and monumental former royal fortress. This former ceremonial compound is a magnificent example of Inca military power and boasts an amazing panoramic view of Cusco. After the excursion, the final afternoon and evening are free of planned activities. Meal: B

Day 7

After breakfast it’s time to bid farewell to the remarkable Inca Empire and transfer to the airport for the flight to Lima with connections to your gateway city. Meal: B
